External Textured Renders

Wet dash to match existing 100 year old textured render. 9mm shingle aggregate with lime putty on 2 backing coats of lime render. ‘Cotswold’ coloured limewash used.

A knotted paint roller used to match existing textured render on lime putty render background. Some historic render preserved under new work. Yellow limewash used.

Wet dash applied with Harling trowel to west facing elevation where damp is a problem. Hydraulic lime used with 10mm shingle on one backing coat of hydraulic lime render.

Wet dash applied with Harling trowel to tower using Hydraulic lime (NHL2) – pictures from left to right showing ‘splatter’ coat to ensure good key, pricking coat with lath scratched key visible (diagonal lines), backing coat still very green with no key present, wet dash being applied, 3 coats of limewash finish.

External Cornice Repair.

Picture shows damage to original cornice, new brackets, laths, scratch coats and finish coat.

Internal Lime Plasters – lime work.

Free-hand archway over doorway with ‘pencil-round’ arris’s.

Patch repair to lath and lime plaster ceiling. Screws and washers used to stabilise existing.

Wooden float finish to render backing coat in 16th century building giving a flat slightly ‘open’ finish.

Internal Sand / Cement Renders and Gypsum Plasters

Pictures show ‘pricking coat’ (horizontal lines), ‘scratch coat’ (circular lines) and gypsum finish. No beads used, all arises around doors and windows freehand in order to complement the cottages character.
